Many voice agents send a follow-up text after a call, for example a booking confirmation or a reminder. Bluejay can capture that SMS, attach it to the call it followed up on, and grade it, so the text becomes part of your simulation results instead of disappearing.

How it works

  1. A voice simulation runs and the call completes.
  2. Your agent sends its confirmation SMS to the Digital Human’s phone number.
  3. Bluejay matches that inbound SMS to the source call, grades it against your criteria, and shows it nested under the call in the run results.
Matching uses three signals:
  • To — the SMS must be sent to the Digital Human’s own phone number (the number the call happened on).
  • From — the sender must be on the agent’s follow-up SMS sender numbers allowlist (see below).
  • Time — the SMS must arrive within 30 minutes of the call completing.
If more than one recent call shares that number (for example a pooled number reused across scenarios), Bluejay picks the call the SMS content best matches. Multiple texts for the same call are grouped into a single follow-up entry.

Enabling it

Follow-up SMS is controlled by one setting: the agent’s sender-number allowlist. If it has at least one number, follow-up SMS is on for that agent’s calls; if it is empty, the feature is off.
1

Add your sender numbers to the agent

Go to Agent Settings → Simulation Settings → Follow-up SMS sender numbers and add the number(s) your agent sends confirmation texts from (in E.164 format, for example +14155550100). This is often a single Twilio A2P campaign number shared across your agents. To have the Digital Human receive a text your agent sends from its own number, just add the agent’s number to this list.
2

(Optional) Set grading criteria on the Digital Human

In the Digital Human editor, fill in Follow-up SMS success criteria with what the text must contain, for example “restates the agreed appointment date and time.” If left blank, the SMS is graded against the Digital Human’s regular success criteria.
3

Run the simulation and check the results

After the run, expand the call row in the run results to see the nested Follow-up SMS entry with its pass/fail grade.
The sender allowlist lives on the agent, so a number trusted for one agent is not automatically trusted for another. Numbers not on the allowlist are ignored.

Configuring via MCP / API

The allowlist is exposed as follow_up_sms_sender_numbers (a list of E.164 strings) on the agent create, update, and read tools. The per-Digital-Human follow_up_sms_success_criteria is available on the Digital Human tools.

Limitations

  • Only completed voice calls are eligible. Calls that never connected (no-answer, dropped, cancelled) are never matched.
  • The window is 30 minutes after the call ends.
  • Retried webhook deliveries of the same SMS are de-duplicated, so a message is never linked twice.
